![]() ![]() The reason I mention how large of a program Ae is is because there really is no "start" to the program (other than opening a project). See what the trending animations on TV and ads are and figure out how to emulate those. Other than what has been mentioned I would look at what is popular now. I've been animating for over 15 years and I still find things that surprise me. If it's possible to tell progression from watching these videos, please tell me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong.Īfter Effects is a massive program. I spent about 150 hours on average for the entire video. (made this in the summer between junior and senior years, July 2018)Įach is the best video I created that year. (made this in 11th grade, September 2017) (made this in 10th grade, September 2016) Here are the links to my videos I can post online: Is there a progressive tutorial (preferably free) on motion graphics and design? If not, how else can I learn this systematically, top to bottom? I want to know how to design efficiently in Illustrator. I want to know how to really use After Effects, to create effects of my own. Channels like MtMograph, ECAbrams, Workbench, and After Effects Tutorials are great, but the videos are not progressive. They are tweaked, of course, but I often spend too much time on it. Most of the effects in my videos are not very original. ![]() I feel like the core problem is that I have to rely heavily on video tutorials. You can see some of my videos which I'll post links to at the bottom. Premiere and Photoshop I'm very unfamiliar with. I know how to use Illustrator, but I don't think I'm good enough at it. I have plugins like Motion V2, Overlord, and RubberHose. Now that I'm done with college applications, I want to spend time building an animation channel explaining concepts in science or history and philosophy of science. Hell, I have never even taken an art class in high school! But it's still a big part of who I am (my personal statement was about portraying science through animation!), and since I've done it for six years, why not continue honing it? I feel like this was largely because of academic burden and the fact that I don't consider animation as a possible career path. Some were personal projects, some for competitions, others for school promotions and PSAs. I only made three-minute-long videos once or twice per semester, and even those are, objectively, not very good. Six years have passed, and as a senior, looking back, I feel like I accomplished very little. I started motion graphics with After Effects CC (2013) in the seventh grade.
